These\nlast few months we have been very busy on campaign work which is of a\nlong term nature. <\/strong>\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This\nedition of Countering Capenhurst is a brief summary of just some of\nthis work. <\/strong>\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

New\nPamphlet.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of our major projects at present is working upon a new edition of Wildlife and the Atom. <\/em><\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\nis a study of the effects of radiation upon our fellow creature.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The pamphlet was first published by Greenpeace [ London ]<\/em> in 1983, and so there are a lot of updates which are being added to it.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

e.g.\n The effects upon wild life due to what happened, and is still going\non, at Both Chernobyl and Fukushima. <\/strong>\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We\nHope to have this work published within the very near future.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cumbrian\nCoal mine campaign.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

There is a proposal to build a new coal mine just a few miles from Sellafield. Keep Cumbrian Coal in the Hole<\/a><\/em> <\/a>is campaigning to stop this from happening. <\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We fully support this campaign, and urge others to do the same.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Australian\nAboriginal Flags<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The\nClose Capenhurst Campaign has two Australian Aboriginal flags which\nhave been used to make the point about uranium mining outside of\nvarious nukiller power plants. From now on they will also be used to\nmake the point about stopping coal mines both in Australia, and\nelsewhere, on all climate change demonstrations.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Waste\ntrain Leaflet changes.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

As\nthe last of the <\/strong>highly\nradioactive <\/strong>nukiller\nfuel rods has been sent from <\/strong>Wylfa <\/strong>to\nSellafield<\/strong>, <\/strong>we have altered our Beware! High Level\nRadioactive Waste Trains leaflet to reflect this fact. <\/strong>\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We\nhave also stopped leafleting upon the waste trains issue outside of\nChester station, as they no longer go through the city. Though we\nwill continue our leafleting sessions at the other stations they go\nthrough.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Uranium\nPrices Are Falling. <\/strong>\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here is a news story which caught our attention of late<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

‘\nFrom a spot price of $136 per pound of uranium oxide in June 2007 it\nfell to just $25.68 this September.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Uranium bulls are “as rare as white unicorns” according to a commentary in FNArena in September 2019, and the market is “sick and dying” with uranium “quickly becoming a dinosaur of a commodity”. <\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

URENCO\n <\/strong>\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

50 years on.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The\nclose Capenhurst Campaign will be marking 50 years since URENCO came\nin to being.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

That is the signing of the<\/strong> Treaty of Almelo. <\/strong> <\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

We\nwill be outside of the Capenhurst plant to mark this anniversary at\n14.00. on March 4th. <\/strong>\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
