{"id":1091,"date":"2020-05-29T06:18:26","date_gmt":"2020-05-29T06:18:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/close-capenhurst.org.uk\/?p=1091"},"modified":"2020-05-29T06:18:26","modified_gmt":"2020-05-29T06:18:26","slug":"issues-briefing-hartlepool","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/close-capenhurst.org.uk\/?p=1091","title":{"rendered":"Issues Briefing \u2013 Hartlepool"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Hartlepool_Nuclear_Power_Station\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Hartlepool <\/a>&#8211; The Forgotten Reactor<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The<a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/maps\/dir\/\/\/@54.6346394,-1.1865369,1264m\/data=!3m1!1e3!4m2!4m1!3e3\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"> EDF Owned AGR reactor<\/a> was commissioned in 1983.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>It is currently expected to close some time during 2024.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Activists have focused very little attention upon the Hartlepool reactor, as there are No anti-nukiller campaigns within the area.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>There is however a lot of information about the plant to be found upon the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.no2nuclearpower.org.uk\/search\/?q=hartlepool\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">No2Nuclear website<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><strong>Waste From the Plant<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/www.theproject.me.uk\/?p=501\" target=\"_blank\">Nukiller waste transported by DRS <\/a>from the plant is taken through Hartlepool, Sunderland, Park Lane Junction Gateshead, Haydon Bridge, Wigton, Maryport, Workington, Whitehaven, &amp; St Bees, to Sellafield.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><strong>Past plans &amp; Current Status Reports.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/news.bbc.co.uk\/1\/hi\/uk_politics\/8349715.stm\" target=\"_blank\">During 2010 Hartlepool was mooted <\/a>as a <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/world-13887579\" target=\"_blank\">possible site for a new reactor to be built by 2025,<\/a> but this idea was dropped.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The ONR [ Office of Nuclear Regulation ] <\/strong><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/www.onr.org.uk\/sites\/hartlepool.htm\" target=\"_blank\"><strong><em>reports about the plant are to be found here<\/em><\/strong>.<\/a> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>While this is how<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.edfenergy.com\/energy\/power-station\/daily-statuses\" target=\"_blank\"><em> EDF report the reactor status<\/em>.<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><strong>Cracks in the Core<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>During 2019 there were raised concerns about the condition of the plant, which may be read about on the <a href=\"https:\/\/mariannewildart.wordpress.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Radiation Free Lakeland <\/a>website.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>C<em><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/mariannewildart.wordpress.com\/2019\/11\/05\/cracked-regulators-allow-hundreds-of-cracks-in-graphite-cores-of-reactors-across-the-uk\/\" target=\"_blank\">racked Regulators Allow Hundreds of Cracks in Graphite Cores of Reactors across the\u00a0UK<\/a><\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Thus the Harlepool, and All the AGR reactors, need to be closed down immediately as a matter of public safety.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hartlepool &#8211; The Forgotten Reactor The EDF Owned AGR reactor was commissioned in 1983.
