{"id":1123,"date":"2021-01-08T07:56:48","date_gmt":"2021-01-08T07:56:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/close-capenhurst.org.uk\/?p=1123"},"modified":"2021-01-09T08:07:00","modified_gmt":"2021-01-09T08:07:00","slug":"countering-capenhurst-new-year-2021","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/close-capenhurst.org.uk\/?p=1123","title":{"rendered":"Countering Capenhurst \u2013 New Year  2021"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><strong>Not Exactly<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>During December Urenco produced a statement which states:-<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em><strong>&#8216; Urenco welcomes the UK Government\u2019s pledge to realise a more ambitious target of reducing the country\u2019s emissions by at least 68% by 2030, as compared with 1990 levels.&#8217;<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What this statement does not include is how mining and processing uranium, the building of new reactors, or nukiller waste storage processes increase atmospheric pollution.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>While there is no account of transport carbons emissions in this statement.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The best line in this statement states: &#8211;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em><strong>&#8216; <\/strong><\/em><em><strong>This pledge further demonstrates a serious intention for the UK to be seen as a leader in decarbonisation.<\/strong><\/em><em><strong>&#8216;<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>It sounds very similar to those lines we keep hearing from those who operate Sellafield.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>It&#8217;s more like world leaders in the production of pollution.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><strong>Sizewell<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>T<a href=\"https:\/\/you.38degrees.org.uk\/petitions\/stop-sizewell-c-huge-new-nuclear-development-in-suffolk-a-o-n-b\/contacts\/new\">ogether Against Sizewell C<\/a> [ TASC ] was founded in 2013 to stop EDF\u2019s plans to build two EPR nukiller reactors on Suffolk\u2019s fragile Heritage Coast.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>You can read about their campaigning activities at<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.tasizewellc.org.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">www.tasizewellc.org.uk\/<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-wp-embed is-provider-tasc-together-against-sizewell-c wp-block-embed-tasc-together-against-sizewell-c\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\nhttps:\/\/tasizewellc.org.uk\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><strong>ONR Reports &#8216;<em>Significant incidents<\/em>&#8216;.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Normally we would not recommend anyone to read the publications of the Nukiller Power Industry, but this is [ as they say ] an exception.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The annual report of the Office for Nuclear Regulation [ ONR ] was published in November.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>As with all such reports it is very self congatuatilly in nature, which is why it needs to be read with a very critical analysis what it states to be factually true.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The most telling part of the report is to be found within the section <\/strong><em><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.onr.org.uk\/documents\/2020\/cni-annual-report-1920.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Significant incidents by site<\/a>.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>This lists various problems at Devenport, Dungeness, Heysham, &amp; Sellafield.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Nukiller Power, Capenhurst, and Brexit.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Amongst the various undesirable aspects of the Brexit deal is the following agreement for further cooperation on nukiller power.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>This agreement continues to uphold the Treaty of <\/strong><strong>Almelo, <\/strong><strong>under which URENCO was established <\/strong><strong>on the 4<\/strong><sup><strong>th<\/strong><\/sup><strong> of March 1970<\/strong><strong>.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/info\/sites\/info\/files\/draft_eu-uk_civil_nuclear_agreement.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">You can read the text of it here.<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><strong>DRS Updates<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>On October 15<sup>th<\/sup> yet another DRS waste train was observed on the way to Torness.
