Capenhurst is very much a news update.<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-family: FreeSans,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><b>We will be published a series of follow ups on all the issues mention in this edition within the next few weeks.<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><span style=\"font-family: FreeSans,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><b>Co-Ordinated Waste Train Protests <\/b><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-family: FreeSans,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><b>DRS [ Direct Rail Services ] is the company which transports nukiller waste along the railways. <\/b><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-family: FreeSans,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><b>The company has two depots. <\/b><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-family: FreeSans,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><b>One at Carlisle and the other one at Crewe.<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-family: FreeSans,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><b>On Saturday July 23<sup>rd<\/sup> DRS held its open day at Crewe.<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: FreeSans,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><b>The Close Capenhurst Campaign organises a protest outside of the Depot, and played a key part in initiating a <\/b><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: FreeSans,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><b> series of <\/b><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: FreeSans,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><b><a href=\"http:\/\/close-capenhurst.org.uk\/?p=676\">Co-Ordinated<\/a> <\/b><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: FreeSans,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><b>protests \/ <\/b><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: FreeSans,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><b>leafleting sessions outside of various stations the waste goes through.<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: FreeSans,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><b>On the Saturday there were leafleting sessions outside of the following stations.<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: FreeSans,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><b>Bangor, Bridegwater, Bristol,\u00a0 Bromley,\u00a0 Colwyn Bay,\u00a0 Inveness,\u00a0 <span lang=\"en-US\">Rhyll, \u00a0 <\/span>Shepherds Bush <\/b><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: FreeSans,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><b>There was also leafleting outside of Slateford Station \/ Edinburgh West on the Friday.<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-family: FreeSans,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><b>While Radiation Free Lakeland was leafleting in Whitehaven on what was the last day of the public consultation about new build at Moorside. <\/b><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\" align=\"center\"><span style=\"font-family: FreeSans,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><b>This is the text of the 1,800 leaflet visit to this DRS depot where waste trains that carry nuclear waste are based.<\/b><\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: FreeSans,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><i><b><u>Yet do please consider these facts before you go in to the depot<\/u>.<\/b><\/i><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u2013 <span style=\"font-family: FreeSans,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><i><b>Each of these waste flasks contains extremely-radioactive fuel rods.<\/b><\/i><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u2013 <span style=\"font-family: FreeSans,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><i><b>These waste trains are transported through some of the most highly-populated areas in the UK.<\/b><\/i><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u2013 <span style=\"font-family: FreeSans,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><i><b>They are transported through towns and cities including Bristol, Chester, Edinburgh, Lancaster, London, Preston, Stafford, Warrington, Wigan, &amp; Worcester. They also go through some of the most congested railway junctions in the country, including Willesden Junction and Crewe.<\/b><\/i><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u2013 <span style=\"font-family: FreeSans,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><i><b>The flasks this waste is carried in is not 100% secure: they leak low-level radiation causing contamination risks.<\/b><\/i><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u2013 <span style=\"font-family: FreeSans,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><i><b>Accidents to nuclear trains have happened and will happen in the future. In a serious accident, causing a waste flask to break open, high-level radiation would be released threatening thousands of deaths downwind.<\/b><\/i><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: FreeSans,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><i><b>&#8211; All this waste is taken to Sellafield were it will be left untreated for many decades into the future.<\/b><\/i><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: FreeSans,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><i><b>We do not need to create this waste, as we can create power from the sun, wind, and tides.<\/b><\/i><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><span style=\"font-family: FreeSans,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><b>What the Hex?<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-family: FreeSans,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><b>Depleted Uranium Hexafluoride is a nukiller waste product which is stored in very large quantities in the grounds at Capenhurst. <\/b><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><span style=\"font-family: FreeSans,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><b>Drigg<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><span style=\"font-family: FreeSans,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><b>During July the Planning Committee of Cumbria County Council considered the proposed expansion of the nukiller waste site at Drigg. <\/b><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><span style=\"font-family: FreeSans,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><b>We voiced our opposition to this development at the meeting, as did Radiation Free Lakeland.<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><span style=\"font-family: FreeSans,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><b>This is the joint statement by CCC Kick Nuclear &amp; Nuclear Trains Action group which was given to the Committee.<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"western\" align=\"center\"><a name=\"Low_Level_Waste_Repository\"><\/a> <span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: FreeSans,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><b>Statement concerning the Drigg Low Level Waste Repository in Cumbria. <\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: FreeSans,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><b>This statement is written on behalf of the following organisations: &#8211;<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: FreeSans,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><b>&#8211; The Nuclear Waste Trains Action Group.<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: FreeSans,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><i><b>Immediate Concerns.<\/b><\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: FreeSans,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><i><b>We would like voice our concerns about the proposed extension to the Low Level Waste Repository at Drigg in Cumbria.<\/b><\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: FreeSans,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><i><b>Our immediate concerns are as follows:-<\/b><\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: FreeSans,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><i><b>&#8211; There has been very poor monitoring of just what radioactive waste is stored at the Drigg site. <\/b><\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: FreeSans,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><i><b>&#8211; That a full audit of the radioactive waste needs to be made in order to get a clear understanding of the state of site.<\/b><\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: FreeSans,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><i><b>&#8211; That the edge of the site boarders upon a flood risk area.<\/b><\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: FreeSans,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><i><b>&amp;<\/b><\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: FreeSans,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><i><b>&#8211; Will be subject to rising tides due to global warming with the next few decades.<\/b><\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: FreeSans,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><i><b>Historical Development.<\/b><\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: FreeSans,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><i><b>&#8216;During WW2 a Royal Ordnance Factory (ROF Drigg) was established at Drigg between the railway line and the sea. This is now the site of the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority low-level radioactive waste repository. <\/b><\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: FreeSans,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><i><b>The site, which was opened in 1959 by the United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority, covers about 110 hectares (270 acres), and holds about one million cubic metres of radioactive waste, although historic disposal records are incomplete. Much of the waste came from the nearby Sellafield nuclear complex.&#8217; <\/b><\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: FreeSans,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><i><b>Dangerous Waste, Rising Tides and Flooding.<\/b><\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: FreeSans,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><i><b>During 2014 the Guardian newspaper published the following: &#8211;<\/b><\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: FreeSans,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><i><b>&#8216;Cumbrian nuclear dump &#8216;virtually certain&#8217; to be eroded by rising sea levels <\/b><\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: FreeSans,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><i><b>One million cubic metres of waste near Sellafield are housed at a site that was a mistake, admits Environment Agency.&#8217;<\/b><\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: FreeSans,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><i><b>It went on as follows: &#8211;<\/b><\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: FreeSans,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><i><b>&#8216;Britain&#8217;s nuclear dump is virtually certain to be eroded by rising sea levels and to contaminate the Cumbrian coast with large amounts of radioactive waste, according to an internal document released by the Environment Agency (EA).<\/b><\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: FreeSans,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><i><b>The document suggests that in retrospect it was a mistake to site the Drigg Low-Level Waste Repository (LLWR) on the Cumbrian coast because of its vulnerability to flooding. &#8220;It is doubtful whether the location of the LLWR site would be chosen for a new facility for near-surface radioactive waste disposal if the choice were being made now,&#8221; it says.&#8217;<\/b><\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: FreeSans,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><i><b>The current Environmental Agency Flood Warning map clearly illustrates our concerns..<\/b><\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: FreeSans,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><i><b>This map clearly that Drigg site is surrounded by low lying land which is prone to flooding. <\/b><\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: FreeSans,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><i><b>Future Waste.<\/b><\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: FreeSans,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><i><b>Our other main concern is that any extension to the storage facilities as Drigg will be used to justify keeping existing nuclear facilities in operation, and be used to justify new build with all the dangers which come with it.<\/b><\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: FreeSans,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><i><b>We would also like it to be noted that any extension to the storage facilities at Drigg will not just effect the population of Cumbria, but could well have a much more global impact.<\/b><\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: FreeSans,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><i><b>In conclusion.<\/b><\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: FreeSans,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><i><b>&#8211; A full Ecological audit should be made of the Drigg site.<\/b><\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: FreeSans,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><i><b>&#8211; No more radioactive waste should be added to it.<\/b><\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: FreeSans,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><i><b>&#8211; An immediate clean up plan should be implemented at the site.<\/b><\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: FreeSans,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><i><b>&amp;<\/b><\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: FreeSans,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><i><b>&#8211; No more radioactive waste should be produced which would go to the Drigg Low Level Waste Repository, or any other site.<\/b><\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\" align=\"left\"><span style=\"font-family: FreeSans,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><b>A Terrible Outcome.<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><a href=\"http:\/\/councilportal.cumbria.gov.uk\/mgAi.aspx?ID=33670\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"font-family: FreeSans,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><b>Despite our protests the planning proposal was approved.<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><span style=\"font-family: FreeSans,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><b>Here are the\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/mariannewildart.wordpress.com\/2016\/07\/20\/field-notes-from-thedelegated-decision-to-sweep-ever-more-nuclear-waste-under-the-west-coast-at-drigg\/\" target=\"_blank\">Field Notes from the\u201dDelegated Decision\u201d to Sweep Ever More Nuclear Waste Under the West Coast at\u00a0Drigg<\/a><\/b><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><span style=\"font-family: FreeSans,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><b>We will continue to oppose this development in conjunction with our fellow campaigners within <a href=\"https:\/\/mariannewildart.wordpress.com\/what-you-can-do\/\" target=\"_blank\">Radiation Free Lakeland.<\/a><\/b><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><span style=\"font-family: FreeSans,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><b>Capenhurst to become the next nukiller submarine Dustbin<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: FreeSans,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><b>It has just been announced that Capenhurst will the the site to store the radioactive remains of 27 Royal Navy nukiller submarine. <\/b><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: FreeSans,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><b>The issue about the 19 sub radioactive parts is just a starting point, as it looks like the radioactive cores from the currently being built subs will also go to Capenhurst at some date in the future.<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: FreeSans,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><b>There are currently 19 nuclear submarines which the MoD no longer wants. <\/b><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: FreeSans,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><b>12 of them are currently at Plymouth and the rest at Rosyth in Scotland.<br \/>\n<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: FreeSans,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><b>There is a suspicion that exactly the same might happen with the <span lang=\"en-US\">currently being built<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Astute-class_submarine\" target=\"_blank\"> A<\/a><\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">stute-class submarine<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">s<\/a> once they have been decommissioned.<\/span><\/b><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: FreeSans,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><b><span lang=\"en-US\">Longer term <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">the same might happen to any Trident\u00a0 submarines &#8211; <\/b><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: FreeSans,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><b>The Nuclear Trains Action Group.<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><span style=\"font-family: FreeSans,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><b><u>Immediate Concerns<\/u>.<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: FreeSans,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><b>We would like voice our concerns about the proposed extension to the Low Level Waste Repository at Drigg in Cumbria.<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: FreeSans,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><b>These are:- <\/b><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: FreeSans,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><b>There has been very poor monitoring of just what radioactive waste is stored at the Drigg site.<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: FreeSans,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><b>That a full audit of the radioactive waste needs to be made in order to get a clear understanding of the state of site.<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: FreeSans,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><b>That the edge of the site borders upon an area at\u00a0 high risk of flooding.<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: FreeSans,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><b>That the site will be threatened by flooding due to global warming leading to a rise in sea-level in the next few decades.<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><span style=\"font-family: FreeSans,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><u><b>Historical Development<\/b><\/u><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><b><span style=\"font-family: FreeSans,sans-serif;\">During WW2 a Royal Ordnance Factory (ROF Drigg) was established at Drigg between the railway line and the sea. This is now the site of the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority low-level radioactive waste repository.\u00a0 The site, which was opened in 1959 by the United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority covers about 110 hectares, and holds about one million cubic metres of radioactive waste, although disposal records are incomplete.\u00a0 Much of the waste came from the nearby Sellafield nuclear complex. *1.<\/span><\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><span style=\"font-family: FreeSans,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><b><u>Dangerous Waste, Rising Tides and Flooding<\/u>.<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><b><span style=\"font-family: FreeSans,sans-serif;\">During 2014 the Guardian newspaper published a report which said: \u201c[The Drigg] nuclear dump is virtually certain to be eroded by rising sea levels and to contaminate the Cumbrian coast with large amounts of radioactive waste, according to an internal document released by the Environment Agency [EA]\u2026[This] document suggests that in retrospect it was a mistake to site the Drigg Low-Level Waste Repository (LLWR) on the Cumbrian coast because of its vulnerability to flooding. It says: &#8220;It is doubtful whether the location of the LLWR site would be chosen for a new facility for near-surface radioactive waste disposal if the choice were being made now.\u201d<\/span><\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: FreeSans,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><b>The current Environmental Agency Flood Warning map clearly illustrates our concerns, showing that Drigg site is surrounded by low lying land which is prone to flooding. *3<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><span style=\"font-family: FreeSans,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><b><u>Future Waste<\/u>.<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><b><span style=\"font-family: FreeSans,sans-serif;\">Our other main concern is that any extension to the storage facilities as Drigg will be used to justify keeping existing nuclear facilities in operation, and be used to justify new build with all the dangers which come with it.<\/span><\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: FreeSans,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><b>We would also like it to be noted that any extension to the storage facilities at Drigg will not just effect the population of Cumbria, but could well have a much more global impact.<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: FreeSans,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><b><u>In conclusion<\/u>.<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: FreeSans,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><b>A full ecological audit should be made of the Drigg site.<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: FreeSans,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><b>No more radioactive waste should be added to it.<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: FreeSans,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><b>An immediate clean-up plan should be implemented at the site.<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: FreeSans,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><b>No more radioactive waste should be produced which would go to the\u00a0 Drigg Low Level Waste Repository, or any other site.<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: FreeSans,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><b><u>References<\/u>.<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: FreeSans,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><b>*1: <span style=\"font-family: FreeSans,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Drigg\" target=\"_blank\">Drigg<\/a><\/span><\/span><\/b><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: FreeSans,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><b>*2:<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/environment\/2014\/apr\/20\/choice-cumbria-nuclear-dump-mistake-environment-agency\" target=\"_blank\"> Cumbrian nuclear dump &#8216;virtually certain&#8217; to be eroded by rising sea levels.<\/a><\/b><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: FreeSans,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><b>*<\/b><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: FreeSans,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><b>3<\/b><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: FreeSans,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><b>:<a href=\"http:\/\/maps.environment-agency.gov.uk\/wiyby\/wiybyController?x=357683.0&amp;y=355134.0&amp;scale=1&amp;layerGroups=default&amp;ep=map&amp;textonly=off&amp;lang=_e&amp;topic=floodmap#x=306592&amp;y=497844&amp;lg=1,2,10,&amp;scale=6\" target=\"_blank\">Map<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Countering Capenhurst Issue 8\u2013 August 2016 This issue of Countering Capenhurst is very much a news update.
