Adding a fracking site just 4 miles away from\nthis already intolerable chemo and radiotoxic burden would be\nmadness\u201d.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"text-align:center\"><strong>URENCO\nin the news.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Source\nof Capenhurst humming noise which torments residents revealed.<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>In\nan update issued on Thursday, January 3, URENCO cited three\nventilation stacks as the source of the nuisance noise. <\/strong>\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"text-align:center\"><strong>New\nCEO <\/strong>\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>URENCO\nhas appointed a new chief executive. <\/strong>\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Boris\nSchucht will take up the position in May 2019, at which time he will\nalso be appointed to the company&#8217;s board. <\/strong>\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Up\nuntil now he has been working for the German company 50Hertz.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"text-align:center\">End Game<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>On\nJanuary 11<sup>th<\/sup> PAWB (People Against Wylfa)  issued a press\nrelease welcoming reports from Japan which strongly suggest that\nHitachi will freeze their project to build a nuclear power station at\nWylfa. <\/strong>\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Then\non January 17<sup>th<\/sup> we read: &#8211; <\/strong>\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Hitachi\nscraps \u00a316bn nuclear power station in Wales <\/strong>\n<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>This\nis very good news, yet it&#8217;s not end game until we close down all the\nexisting reacting reactors, together with Capenhurst &amp;\nSpringfields. <\/strong>\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>While\nwe still need to keep campaigning on the long term nukiller waste\nissue. <\/strong>\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"text-align:center\"><strong>Statement.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What\nis very telling are some of the remarks made by Greg Clark MP,\nBusiness and Energy Secretary,  in a statement to Parliament on\nJanuary 17<sup>th<\/sup>.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&#8216;Why\nthe government was unable to reach an agreement with Hitachi over\nWylfa nuclear plant that strikes a fair deal for billpayers and\ntaxpayers&#8217; <\/strong>\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>These\ninclude the following:- <\/strong>\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&#8216;The\ncost of renewable technologies such as offshore wind has fallen\ndramatically, to the point where they now require very little public\nsubsidy and will soon require none.&#8217;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&amp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\n<strong>&#8216;Across\nthe world, a combination of factors including tighter safety\nregulations, have seen the cost of most new nuclear projects\nincrease, as the cost of alternatives has fallen and the cost of\nconstruction has risen. This has made the challenge of attracting\nprivate finance into projects more difficult than ever, with\ninvestors favouring other technologies that are less\ncapital-intensive upfront, quicker to build, and less exposed to cost\noverruns.&#8217; <\/strong>\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Thus\nwe have progressed from the line about &#8216;too cheap to meter&#8217;, to &#8216;too\nexpensive to build&#8217;  within just a few decades.  <\/strong>\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>While\nthe clean up costs will continue for many centuries in to the future.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"text-align:center\"><strong>Decommissioning\nCosts<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>During\nJanuary the National Audit Office issued the following press release:\n&#8211; <\/strong>\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Oil\nand gas in the UK \u2013 offshore decommissioning<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The\nkey line being: &#8211;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&#8216;\nThe government estimates that decommissioning the UK\u2019s offshore oil\nand gas infrastructure will cost taxpayers \u00a324 billion, although the\nactual cost is highly uncertain &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; .&#8217;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Meanwhile\nthis is the latest news on what it might cost to clean up the\nexisting UK nukiller power plants.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&#8216;\nThe current nuclear provision is estimated at some \u00a3164bn, over the\nnext 120 years as the NDA (nuclear decommissioning authority)\nundertake the decommissioning of 17 of the UK\u2019s older nuclear\nsites.&#8217; <\/strong>\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Anniversaries\n &amp; Forthcoming Events<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"text-align:center\"><strong>Fukushima\nDay.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>8th\nanniversary events in London&nbsp;2019<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Kick Nuclear will be holding an evening vigil outside of the Japanese Embassy on Monday March 11th, march on Saturday March 16<sup>th<\/sup><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p><strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"text-align:center\"><strong>April\n26<sup>th<\/sup> \u2013 Chernobyl Day. <\/strong>\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>On\nSaturday April 27<sup>th<\/sup> SNNA will be holding an event outside\nof the Springfields plant.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"text-align:center\"><strong>May\n4<sup>th<\/sup> &#8211; 8<sup>th.<\/sup>  <\/strong>\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"text-align:center\"><strong>This will be the 40 anniversary of the Torness Occupation.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Aside\nfrom marking this as the last major anti-nukiller action on a now\ncompleted green field site, it might also worth while making the\npoint about this is now a dangerously ageing reactor.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"text-align:center\"><strong>October\n10<sup>th<\/sup><sup>\n &#8211; <\/sup>62\nyears since the Windscale Fire.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>We\nwill be organising another event to mark this anniversary. <\/strong>\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Details\nabout this will be announced later\nyear.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"text-align:center\"><strong>Other\nEvents.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>If\nanyone wishes to join us on any of our regular leafleting sessions\nabout nukiller waste trains, or wants a speaker on any aspect of the\ndangers inherent with the use of nukiller power, then please let us\nknow.<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Ellesmere Port Igas Inquiry.
