So we have to keep\nlooking for information about both the Company and their plants from\nother sources.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>However\nthat said, it is still worth while taking a look at the URENCO\nwebsite,  even if it is full of corporate spin.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>More\nnew flasks.<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>It\nwas reported in the April edition of the Railway Magazine, that W H\nDavis has just handed over eight new nukiller waste flasks to DRS.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>That is on top of the<a href=\"http:\/\/www.theproject.me.uk\/?p=545\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" 10 new ones which were reported about during 2014. (opens in a new tab)\"> 10 new ones which were reported about during 2014.<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What\nwe don&#8217;t know is just how many of these flasks are in use at any one\ntime.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>DRS\nOpen Day demonstration.<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>DRS &#8211; The Nukiller waste train company has just announced it&#8217;s open day, which will be on <em>July 20th.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>We\nwill be outside once more, leafleting about the dangers which come\nfrom moving high radioactive waste through out city centres. <\/strong>\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>More\ndetails to follow in the next few weeks.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>URENCO\nat 50<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Urenco\nwas founded with the  Treaty of Almelo on the 4<sup>th<\/sup> of March\n1970.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>New\nyear we will be joining with others to mark 50 years since it was\nsigned.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>For\nmore details \u2013 watch this space.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Weekly\nvigils outside London Japanese&nbsp;Embassy.<\/strong><\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Every Friday [work day] members of<a href=\"https:\/\/kicknuclear.com\/weekly-vigil-outside-japanese-embassy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" Kick Nuclear (opens in a new tab)\"> Kick Nuclear<\/a> and JAN UK hold&nbsp;a vigil outside the Japanese Embassy on Piccadilly in London to remember Fukushima and to protest against nuclear power.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The\nvigil begins at 10:00am GMT to coincide with the vigils held in Tokyo\nat 6:00pm JST, outside the Prime Minister\u2019s residence and outside\nthe Diet (Parliamentary) building. These two vigils are attended by\nhundreds of people. Dozens&nbsp;more such vigils are held across\nJapan, in the USA and in other parts of the world.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>At\nnoon, the London vigil moves to outside the London office of Tepco\n(Tokyo Electric Power Company), the company in charge of the\nFukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>These\nweekly vigils first started during august of 2012.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Read\noutside of the London Japanese Embassy and TEPCO on 31st May 2019.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>   <strong>&#8216;\nDear Anti-Nuclear Power\/Weapon activists, friends and supporters,<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The\nJapanese Government announced May 24 that it plans to arrange an\ninternational meeting to consider how to dispose of highly\nradioactive nuclear waste.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Tokyo\nis set to get approval for the plan at the Group of 20 Ministerial\nMeeting on Energy Transitions and Global Environment for Sustainable\nGrowth scheduled for mid-June in Karuizawa, Nagano Prefecture, and\naims to launch the first roundtable this autumn.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Nuclear\nwaste is a problem for all countries operating nuclear power plants,\nand the Japan-backed international summit on cooperation to dispose\nof it will be a world first. Participating nations are expected to\naim for improved cooperation and formulation of an international\n&#8220;basic strategy&#8221; on dealing with radioactive waste.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>High-level\nnuclear refuse is usually &#8220;vitrified&#8221; &#8212; mixed with melted\nglass and solidified &#8212; before deposited in an underground storage\nfacility. Japan&#8217;s own disposal plans call for holding the waste for\n30-50 years to cool it before burying it in stable rock formations at\nleast 300 meters below ground. Finland is already building a major\nunderground disposal site, while its neighbor Sweden is conducting a\nsafety evaluation at the location of its own planned facility.\nHowever, there is no precedent for actually operating such an\ninstallation, and Japan has not yet even begun the survey process to\nchoose a site.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The\nJapanese government will thus use the June 15-16 G-20 environment and\nenergy summit meeting to urge member nations to cooperate on\nrealistic solutions. Specifically, Japan will press nations with\nadvanced nuclear disposal technology including those in Europe to\nshare their know-how, and also promote international collaboration\namong research facilities and staff exchanges.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> <strong>The\ninternational roundtable will put together a collection of proposals\non a basic nuclear waste disposal cooperation strategy and how to\nexplain the issue to the citizens of member nations.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>We\nhave to ask the following questions to the Japanese government and\nmember countries:-<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>\n<strong>All\n\ttypes of nuclear wastes are going to be cooled in the pool of water\n\tfor more than 30 years and then stored in containers? <\/strong>\n\t\n\t<\/li><li>\n<strong>These\n\tnuclear wastes are controlled by the private companies for at least\n\t300 years? Which company can last 300 years? <\/strong>\n\t\n\t<\/li><li>\n<strong>After\n\t300 years and for 100,000 years, who is going to control these\n\tnuclear wastes? <\/strong>\n\t\n\t<\/li><li>\n<strong>Decommissioning\n\tthe nuclear plant takes how many years? 40-50 years? <\/strong>\n\t\n\t<\/li><li>\n<strong>Who\n\tis going to cover all costs? <\/strong>\n\t\n\t<\/li><li>\n<strong>Where\n\tis the final disposal sites for the spent fuel wastes? <\/strong>\n\t\n\t<\/li><li>\n<strong>Why\n\tthe government is reluctant to give up the nuclear power which costs\n\tso much and needs a very very long term control? <\/strong>\n\t\n<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>With\nstrong solidarity with the Japanese Anti-Nuclear movements, which\nmobilised 10,000 demonstrators in Tokyo on 20th March 2019 and every\nFriday evening Anti-Nuclear Power action in front of the Prime\nMinister&#8217;s official residence and the Diat in Tokyo, we, the Japanese\nAgainst Nuclear-UK, Kick nuclear and CND are planning to organise the\nmonthly vigil and leafleting including Statement-Read-Out form 11:30\nAM. After handing a copy of the statement to the embassy, we will\nmove to the TEPPCO office (14-18 Holborn near Chancery Lane Tube\nstation). A copy of the statement will be posted to TEPCO.
