Countering Capenhurst Issue 6 – June 2016

Current Concerns.

Much of the focus of anti-nukiller-power activists of late has focused up stopping new build at Hinkley, Wylfa, and Moorside.

This is because nukiller New Build will result in:-

– More pollution as the result of Uranium Mining.

– More Uranium Enrichment work being done at Capenhust with all the dangers which go with it.

– Much more highly radioactive waste to deal with.

That is why we continue to put a lot of our effects in to opposing such plants

Future and Recent Events.

– Saturday July 23rd.

This is the DRS [ Direct Rail Services ] open day at Crewe.

There will be some activists leafleting outside of the DRS Crewe depot that day.

There will also be co-ordinate leafleting sessions outside many of the railway stations which nukiller waste trains go though.

So far confirmed leafleting sessions include London, Bridgewater, and Carnforth in Cumbria.

We will publish a full list neared the time.

– Tuesday September 20.

There is an Emergency Exercise at Capenhurst that day.

So the idea is the hold a picket outside the plant, and bring along the Geiger Counter in order to make sure that nothing is going wrong inside the plant.

There should be some press coming along to see our Geiger counter in use.

More details to follow in the next few months

Counting their profits.

The Full Year 2015 Audited Financial Results for URENCO were published published in March.

New publications

We have updated our leaflet

Don’t Hex the Hex.

The Uranium enrichment process at Capenhurst involves the use of Uranium Hexafluoride (Hex).

Once enriched in the form of a Uranium Hexafluoride, it is transported by Advance

Uranium Asset Management (AUAM) on public highways to the Toshiba owned

Westinghouse Springfields plant near Preston. It is then converted to atomic fuel rods.

A vast and unknown quantity of depleted Hex is in storage at the Capenhurst plant.

During March we participated in the Cher30byl – Fuku5hima: Beyond Nuclear conference which was held in Manchester.

The major presentations which were given that weekend are to be found upon the Nuclear Free Local Authorities website.

Getting Involved in the Work.

As with all anti-nukiller-power campaigns there are very few of us working to stop these dangers.

Thus there is a need for more activists, and many more people knowing just what we are working upon.

So if you are both willing and able to join in with the work, or would like a someone to speak in your area, then please contact us.
